Sectional Representatives will be a valuable link within the choir to:
Be a point of contact in welcoming new members. Make new members feel welcome and introduce them to other members of the section - Introduce them to The Chair, Treasurer, Membership Secretary and Musical Director and other members of the committee.
Be able to read music well (piano skills not required but useful).
Help to organize sectional rehearsals if needed.
Assist those who cannot read music as appropriate.
Be able to attend most rehearsals and encourage others to attend.
Take careful note of details and direction form the MD in rehearsals, such as phrasing, breathing, pronunciation etc., so that exact details can be communicated to members.
Keep section members up to date with new information.
Take apologies for absence (in advance by midday on Tuesday except in emergencies) and in form the Musical Director to enable him to plan rehearsals.
Check the registers and notice when a singer is absent and make a friendly call.
Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.Encourage members to take an active part in the choir. Listen to and hopefully answer any queries from their section.
Gather any feedback to pass on to the committee.
Contact anyone who leaves the choir and if possible, establish the reason.
Effectively communicate with the Music Director.
Be willing and able to support the musical director.
Work in conjunction with other Section Leaders.
